How to Choose Wedding Vendors for a Farm Wedding in New Jersey

Planning a farm wedding in New Jersey comes with its own set of decisions, and vendor selection is one of the biggest. The vendors you bring to your celebration shape everything, from the food your guests remember to the photos you'll look at for decades. At Born to Run Farm, we've seen what works. Here's what we'd tell any couple starting that search.
Start with the Venue's Preferred Vendor List
Before you open a browser tab or scroll through Instagram, ask your venue if they have a preferred vendor list. We maintain one for good reason. Every vendor on our list has worked at the farm, knows the layout, and understands the rhythm of an outdoor event on Point Mountain. That kind of familiarity saves you from surprises on the day itself.
Our list covers caterers, photographers, entertainment, florists, transportation, rentals, and planners, so you're not starting from scratch. Working with vendors who already know the property means fewer questions on the wedding day and more time for you to enjoy it.
Catering for an Outdoor Farm Setting
Farm weddings don't always have a commercial kitchen on site, so your caterer needs to be prepared for that reality. When you're vetting caterers, ask directly how they handle outdoor setups and what equipment they bring. Our preferred caterers, including WillowSage, Bex, Qcrew, and Deli Boys, have all navigated our property and know what outdoor service here actually requires.
Ask about dietary accommodations early, not as an afterthought. A good caterer will have a clear answer. If they hesitate, that tells you something.
Finding a Photographer Who Knows the Light
Golden hour at Born to Run Farm is something photographers genuinely get excited about. The open pastures, the pond, the mountain top views, and the vintage horse trailer bar all photograph beautifully, but only if your photographer knows how to use natural light and isn't caught off guard by an outdoor setting.

Look at their portfolio specifically for outdoor and farm venues. Photographers like Janine Collette and Wildflower on our preferred list have shot here before and know exactly where to position couples during that late afternoon light. That kind of preparation shows in the final images.
Entertainment That Works in a Tent
A 40-by-100-foot tent with Edison bulb lighting and a chandelier overhead creates a specific kind of atmosphere. Your DJ or band needs to work with that, not against it. Sound carries differently outdoors and under a tent than it does in a ballroom, so experience with open-air receptions matters more than you'd think.
Our preferred entertainment partners, including Showoff, DJ Express, and Sound Explosion, have all performed at the farm and understand how to calibrate sound for the space. When you reach out to any entertainment vendor, ask if they've worked at outdoor venues and what their setup requires from the venue itself.
Florists and the Farm Aesthetic
Born to Run Farm has its own natural texture: rolling hills, open sky, barn elements, and live animals that actually live here year-round. A good florist will build arrangements that complement that setting rather than compete with it. Our preferred florists, including Bespoke, Solstice, and Dutch Valley, have designed for the farm's look and know how outdoor heat and humidity can affect certain flowers.
Ask your florist about seasonal availability for anything you have in mind. What works beautifully in October may not be available in June, and vice versa.
Planners Who Know Outdoor Events
Outdoor weddings have more moving pieces than indoor ones. A planner who specializes in outdoor venues will think through logistics you haven't considered yet, from bathroom trailer sizing for larger guest counts to golf cart coordination across the property. Our preferred planners include Made Simple and An Affair to Remember, both of whom have worked events here and understand the specific flow of the farm.
Even if you don't hire a full planner, a day-of coordinator with outdoor event experience is worth every dollar.
