Your first look deserves more than a hotel hallway. At Born to Run Farm, we've watched couples share this moment against our Point Mountain backdrop, and it never gets old. The way the light hits the valley, the quiet that settles over 129 Mountain Top Road before your guests arrive, it's the kind of setting that makes you forget about the timeline for a minute.
We're a working farm turned wedding venue in Glen Gardner, and our location gives you options most venues can't offer. Whether you want a wide open sky or something more intimate, the mountain-top views work with your vision, not against it.
Creating Your First Look Experience on Point Mountain
The first look isn't just about the photos. It's about finding a few minutes of quiet before everything accelerates. Our property gives you room to structure that moment in a way that feels right for you two, and our staff helps coordinate the logistics so your photographer can focus on capturing it. Here's how couples typically approach first looks here, and what you should think through during planning.

Using the Natural Landscape
Point Mountain sits at the center of everything we do here. When you book one of our packages, The Daisy, The Elouise, or The Dorothy, you get access to the entire property for your day. That includes the open areas where approximately 30 cows, a dozen sheep, 2 donkeys, and chickens go about their business.
Some couples choose a spot near the ceremony site where the arbor frames the view. Others prefer a quieter corner where the only sound is the breeze. Our golf cart services help you move between locations without worrying about grass stains or timing, and our staff knows the property well enough to suggest spots based on your light preferences.
The Bridal Suite as Your Starting Point
If you go with The Dorothy package, or add the bridal suite a la carte, you get five hours before the wedding to settle in and get ready. That setup time matters for first looks because you can coordinate with your photographer without rushing. You're already on site, already comfortable, and when it's time, you just step outside.
The suite gives you a private space to compose yourself before the moment. No elevator rides, no navigating through hotel guests. You walk out when you're ready.
Working with Light and Timing
Our guests often mention the sunsets in their testimonials. Karen P. called it gorgeous, and she wasn't exaggerating. The mountain catches light differently throughout the day, which means your first look timing affects what your photos will show.
The morning light here is soft and even. Afternoon sun can be dramatic, especially if there's weather moving through the valley. Late afternoon into golden hour is when the views really open up. We can't control the weather, but we can help you think through timing so your photographer has the best chance at capturing what you want.
The Pond and Open Spaces
One of our couples mentioned the pond in their review, and it's become a popular backdrop. The water reflects the sky and the surrounding landscape, which adds depth to photos. It's not elaborate, just a natural feature that photographs well.
Beyond the pond, we have open fields and areas around the farm buildings. The space lets your photographer work with different compositions without feeling boxed in. Wide shots that show the mountain range, tighter frames that focus on you two, it's all available within a short walk.
Considering Your Vendors
We work with preferred photographers like Janine Collette, MZ, BTR, and Wildflower who know the property. They've shot here before and understand how to use the terrain and light. If you're bringing your own photographer, that works too. Our staff can walk them through the property during your planning process so everyone's on the same page come wedding day.
Your photographer might want to scout locations during your engagement session if you book The Dorothy package. That session is included, and it's a practical way to test angles and timing before your wedding day.
Incorporating the Farm Elements
We're a functioning farm, and that's part of what makes the setting work. The animals aren't props, they're residents, but they do add life to the landscape. Some couples want them in the background of their first look shots. Others prefer to keep the focus solely on the mountain views. Both approaches work, and we'll help coordinate based on what you're after.
The barn structures and fence lines give your photographer natural framing elements. These aren't staged rustic details. They're working parts of the farm that happen to photograph well.
Planning the Moment Itself
First looks vary. Some couples want a traditional tap on the shoulder setup. Others prefer to walk toward each other from a distance. A few have asked to meet at the ceremony arbor for a private moment before guests arrive.

Whatever structure you choose, our staff support and site familiarity help make it happen smoothly. We've been doing this since 2016, and while every couple is different, we've learned how to read a timeline and adjust as needed.
Making Your Vision Work Here
You've probably seen hundreds of first look photos by now, and you know what resonates with you. Our job is to give you the setting and support so your photographer can execute. The mountain views are here regardless. How you use them is up to you.
We're a family owned venue, and Jay and Joan Gerish built this place with the idea that the land should do most of the work. We keep it maintained, we provide the infrastructure through our packages, and we guide you through the logistics. The rest is your story.
