Almost every couple who visits Born to Run Farm asks us the same question at some point. What happens if it rains?
It is a fair question. We sit on top of Point Mountain in Glen Gardner, and the sky out here does whatever it wants. But a weather plan is not something you throw together the week of the wedding. It is something you build into the day from the start, and most of what you need is already sitting on the property.
Planning an Outdoor Wedding in North Jersey Around the Weather, Not Against It
The couples who feel calm on their wedding morning are usually not the ones who got lucky with the forecast. They are the ones who made a handful of decisions early, so a shift in the sky only changes where people stand, never whether the day goes forward. Here is how we work through it with you.
Start With the Tent, Because the Tent Is the Plan
The 40-foot by 100-foot tent is the anchor of the whole day. It comes with electric, carpet flooring, Edison bulb lighting, a chandelier, and side walls. Those side walls are the part people forget to ask about. If the wind picks up or a shower rolls through, they come down, and your reception keeps going. There is also a 20-foot by 40-foot tent for additional covered space. Both tents are part of our packages from The Daisy up, so you are not scrambling to rent a backup in the final week. You already have one.
Keep the Ceremony Easy to Move
Our ceremony site includes the arbor, chairs, and benches. None of that is bolted down. Chairs move. Benches move. Guests move. When you come out for your visit, walk the ceremony site and the tent on the same trip, and ask us what a rainy version of your timeline would look like. That conversation is short, and it usually settles the question for good. A ceremony that can shift is a ceremony that cannot be ruined.
Let the Staff and the Golf Carts Do the Work
Staff support and golf cart services come with every wedding here, and on a wet or windy day they matter more than couples expect. Guests get from the parking area to their seats without a long walk through the weather. Grandparents are not crossing a field on foot. The bathroom trailer, which we require for weddings over 75 guests and size to your guest count, means the practical side of the day holds steady no matter what the sky is doing.
Use the Fire Pit and the Bridal Suite
A cool evening is not a problem out here. The fire pit is included with every wedding, and it is where people drift once the sun drops behind the ridge. If you book The Dorothy, the bridal suite is yours for five hours before the wedding, which gives you a comfortable place to get ready, take a breath, and let a passing shower pass. The suite is also available on its own if you want it without the full package.
Choose Vendors Who Know This Property
We keep a preferred vendor list covering caterers, photographers, florists, entertainment, rentals, transportation, event planners, and nearby hotels like Town Suites and Courtyard Marriott. These are people who have worked on this farm before. On a day when the plan shifts, that familiarity shows in how quietly things get handled. Remember Where You Are Standing
A working farm does not pause for weather. Our cows, sheep, donkeys, and chickens are out there living their full lives no matter what the forecast says, and something is steadying about that on a wedding morning. Jay and Joan Gerish bought this land in 1978 and kept it as a family getaway and a horse training space long before we opened it for weddings in 2016. The views off this mountain change with every hour of light and every passing cloud. Some of the best ones show up right after the rain clears.
